Object Detection and Tracking using Image Processing

The project involves Object detection as its main objective with the help of image processing. An algorithm is developed using Matlab and C language programming to
determine the number of objects and also give the count of the objects in a particular background.Based on this we have used the algorithm in the following applications. The
urban track management system application is developed with the idea of using the latest technology in trace engineering to effectively manage vehicular trace in urban
settings. The main input will be taken from trace cameras located strategically at various junctions. These images will then be processed via image processing. An algorithm
has been developed to count the number of vehicles on road and also give the least trace route. The code for same is implemented in MATLAB. This code will use grayscale to
binary conversion to get the count.Here the algorithm will detect the number of objects in one frame from the image captured by camera. The Object tracker application is
developed with the intention of tracking a single object with respect to the previous frames captured. The object here is the reaction of sun on a copper plate. The bright
spot forms the object which is tracked continuously.The object tracker application will help determine the optimum position required for getting the maximum bright spot by
tracking it. The same algorithm used previously is used except that here different frames are used to track single object whereas in previous application we track many
object in a single frame.
 Data Acquisition using CAN protocol

This paper describes a design and implementation of a Data Acquisition System using the Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol. CAN protocol was fundamentally developed for
the automobile industry and hence was used in this application. The proposed system consists of multiple nodes which acquire various operating parameters of the vehicle
like temperature, steering rotation, vehicle tilt angle etc. This data is relayed to a central node via CAN bus which monitors the vehicle safety and also raises an alarm
over GSM network in case of an abnormal parameter reading. The overall system is configurable and flexible and hence can be applied for normal vehicular safety as well as
race car safety and monitoring.
 ANALYSIS OF TWO STAGE CMOS OP-AMP FORSINGLE-EVENT TRANSIENTS

Analysis of two-stage CMOS op-amps for single event transients, this project deals withstudying the effects of transients on various nanometer technologies for operational Amplifiers. The obtained simulation results are to be compared with the reported pub-lished experimental data. Based on the simulations done, a denite conclusion can bemade regarding the tolerance of op- amps to SET with scaling at the sub-micron level. This synopsis describes the work accomplished in our project to date. The foremost article gives a concise explanation about initial simulations done in HSPICE. A brief ex-planationabout the introduction, causes and e ects of SET is stated. This follows witha literature survey of the referred IEEE papers and books for study and research purposes.The project involves design and simulation of operationalamplifiers for different nanometer congurations i.e. 90nm, 130nm and 180nm and studying the SET effects by fault injection by using an artificially generated current spike at the specific node. Amajor part of our work involved study of HSPICE and circuit simulation and analysis.
 Characteristics of MOSFET, FINFET and CNTTFT: A Simulation Study

As dimensional scaling of CMOS transistors is reaching their fundamental physical limits, it is essential to find an alternative way to continue Moore’s law. In this paper, simulation study of Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET), Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistor (CNTFET) and FinFET is carried out. Various logic circuits are simulated and it has been observed that CNTFET transistor is the promising candidate for scaled devices as compared to MOSFET and FinFET due to high ON current.
 Electronic Language Interpreter

The Electronic Language Interpreter is an electronic device that enables translations fromonelanguage to another. It currently is designed to support English and _ve Indian languages-Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Gujarati. The system has been made speaker independentand for a limited vocabulary. Currently the vocabulary consists of 150 words with provision for expansion of vocabulary by addition of more words. The entire system has beenimplemented in three stages:
1. Speech to text (Automatic speech recognition) audio input support for English andHindi has been implemented. Audio input gets converted into recognized text whichgets stored in a .txt _le. We have used libraries provided by Pocketsphinx 0.7 forspeech recognition. PocketSphinx is small-footprint continuous speech recognitionsystem, freely licensed under a sampled BSD license, suitable for handheld and desk-top applications. Support for semi-continuous, phonetically-tied, and fully continuousacoustic models.
2. Text to Text conversion of recognized text into text in desired languages takes place.Also, facility to give manual text input has been provided. MySQL has been used tomaintain the lists of words in stored in different languages.
3. Text to Speech (Speech Synthesis) using open source speech synthesis libraries likedhvani TTS, speech synthesis is achieved for all six languages. Dhvani is a Text toSpeech System for Indian Languages. It includes language speci_c synthesizer modulesand an Indian voice database. t has a command line interface as well as a C/C++API Interface.An application was developed on desktop platform to implement the entire system andlater the application was ported into the hardware BeagleBoardXm Rev C. The Ubuntu OS11.10 was loaded into the hardware to facilitate use of developed application.
 SPHERICAL MOBILE ROBOT

Spherical robots utilize an original locomotion sys- tem by displacing its center of gravity in order to generate torque and rotate it. Spherical robots, however, can generate only small amount of torque for rotation. This makes its locomotion ability for uphill climbing and obstacle over running greatly limited. Therefore, this study focuses on spherical robots operating on rough and uneven floors. It describes the basic dynamics and control methods, which can applied for enhancing the features and overcoming the disadvantages.
First the dynamics of a spherical robot is investigated for two motions: drivingand steering. Second, this project describes the newly developed prototype robot including its wireless communication. The wireless system is one of the critical components of the prototype, since rotation does not allow physical wiring. Third, in order to avoid clumsy and unstable motion coming from the spherical shape, weight manipulation was done to achieve maximum symmetry and lower center of gravity.
 Home Automation Using Embedded Web Server

Security has beena major concern nowadays. Contionuous reports of theft and robbery Havebeen on news. Also the after theft identification of robbers too is a big problem. Hencewe have made a system wherein we provide the user to access the activities going on athis home or once. Our system would also notify the end user for any unusual activityhappening and also save the unusual activity on the server for the user to access. Wehave made the entire setup on a embedded platform. We have used a Pandaboard havingTI OMAP 4460 cortex A9 multicore processor. The board is specially used for imageprocessing applications. The system we have made will detect any kind of motion using aUSB camera and detect the face whether it is known or unknown face. If the detected faceis unknown then it will call the cops or any other number provided by the user and will alsosave the video after motion is detected and upload it on the server with the date and time ofthe detected motion. The user can also access the live stream of the images if he has accessto internet facility. The user can also access all the features using mobile phone too. Allthese features available are low rates.
 Staircase Climber

The paper describes the project that is intended to be a prototype of a machine that will help people, who find it a problem, to climb up and down on staircases. Our project is a 30x30cm machine which adjusts a box attached to a servomotor, with high torque, while climbing up and down a staircase. The machine is completely autonomous with path tracking and obstacle detection facility that keeps the box parallel to the ground irrespective of ascend or descend of the vehicle on the staircase. The whole machine is controlled by ATMEGA 8535 which is programmed using Codevision AVR software.
 ANTHROPOMORPHIC ROBOTIC ARM

Studying biological systems has given robotics researchers valuable insight into designingcomplex systems. This thesis explores one such application of biomimetic robotic systemdesigned around a human arm. Anthropomorphic Robotic Arm is a mechanical system thatwill move like a human arm and its movements will be controlled by a human arm andelectronic circuits. This system will be created to maneuver a robotic arm remotely, toperform simple tasks i.e. lifting and moving simple light weighted objects. This projectconsists of two units master and slave. The master unit will be attached to a human handand move with it while slave unit will mimic master’s motions. The master and slave unitswill be interfaced via a serial servo controller circuit. The control circuit board uses apowerful integrated microcontroller, a PIC (Programmable Interface Controller). The PICis programmed using micro C. The user handling the master unit can be at a reasonabledistance from the robotic arm or slave unit. This arm uses degrees of freedom or servomotors that represented joints of human arm and help it to mimic human arm’s motion.
 GPS-GSM INTEGRATION FOR ENHANCING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Public Transportation plays a pivotal role in daily commute of a common man. But themajor drawback of public transportation is time consumed. In Cities where life moves at a fastpace, the common man values his time more than anything else. Although the time for thecommute cannot be reduced but the time spent in waiting for the transport to arrive can definitelybe reduced.This project of ours aims to reduce this wastage of time by enhancing the transportationmanagement services and giving a systematic approach to it. We have developed this projectkeeping in mind the B.E.ST bus services which is considered as the 2nd lifeline of Mumbaifollowed by the railways. But unlike railways while waiting at the stop we are not indicatedabout the arrival of the next bus and its time of arrival so person has to helplessly wait at the busstop hoping that the next bus coming would be his desired one. By execution of this project wecan get the location of the nearest desired bus by just an SMS. With such handy information aperson can plan his schedule well and instead of waiting at the bus stop he can get done withother important task of his.We make use of simple GPS(Global Positioning System) and GSM (Global System forMobiles) modules and a 89v51rd2 microcontroller for their interfacing. GPS is used forobtaining the current location of the bus. Whereas GSM module is used for the sake ofcommunicating with the customer and the Base station where all database regarding bus location is stored. Project works towards the betterment of the transportation services and give them anorganized approach. A person with SMS service within its reach can make the optimum use of this service and plan his schedule well.
 AUTOMATION OF STUDENT TRANSACTIONS IN AN INSTITUTE USING RFID

 PORTABLE NETWORK INTRUSIONDETECTION SYSTEM

Technologies in circulation currently, while sufficient for single desktop computers, are incapable of detecting intrusions over a network. Also, high cost and inflexibility prevent these technologies from attaining a universal nature. In order to bring down cost, improve universality and make it powerful to handle a network, we have proposed an embedded, pluggable Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) that can work in a real time environment at the entry point of the network to identify potential attacks on the network terminals. This technology will work by detecting anomalies in the TCP/IP headers of incoming packets, and thus detect a spurious packet. These packets once detected, will immediately be blocked and the packet’s IP address will be stored in the memory of the embedded system itself. The Pluggable Embedded NIDS(PENIDS)will be user-friendly and most importantly, universal in nature. Also, the load created on the network will be minimal as compared to the effectiveness of the system in handling the spurious packets.
 ZIGBEE Based Electrical Parameter Monitoring And Controlling System

This is a digital system for condition monitoring and controlling electric systems parameter like voltage using wireless sensor networks (WSNs) based on ZigBee. One can place the monitoring system wherever it is required without the cost incurred with cabling when adopting the wired communication approach, So that the communicating entities can freely move. This system presents a idea of monitoring, assessment and control functions in a future control centre, which will be fully automated, decentralized and based on wide-area measurement. The system utilizes CC2420 as the ZigBee Module for remote transmission and reception to realize a real wireless system. The system can substantially save cost and reduce the complexity of construction and has broad application prospects.

As the price of crude oil is rising we are forced to think of other energy resources.A lot of efforts are being taken to use renewable energies in more efficient way. Manyvisionaries think that biomass will be the best replacement all fossil energy resources inthe future.We studied the biogas plant erected by many companies in last decades andgain a lot of knowledge of anaerobic fermentation and the development of new and moreefficient applications. We put together the knowledge and new ideas and built a newmodel to maximize the quantity and improve the quality of generated biogas. We analyzethe results for cow dung at a temperature within thermophilic range.
 Design, Build and Control of Inverted Pendulum using PID/Fuzzy Logic controller

The inverted pendulum is a highly nonlinear and open-loop unstable system. This meansthat standard linear techniques cannot model the nonlinear dynamics of the system. Whenthe system is simulated the pendulum falls over quickly. The characteristics of the invertedpendulum make identification and control more challenging. The inverted pendulum is aclassical control problem, which involves developing a system to balance a pendulum. Forvisualization purposes, this is similar to trying to balance a broomstick on anger. Themotivation was to translate the mathematical models developed in control theory classes into a real-time system.

Most of the process industries are equipped with the advance instrumentation and control systems toimprove the productivity of the plant. For design and operation of process control in the age of rational technology change, engineers and technicians must have knowledge and training of controlsystems. Our project on Temperature control of water using LabView is a setup which we are developing so that this kit can be explicitly used for experimental purposes in college. For control action we are using a LabView. LabView is the system design software that provides engineers andscientists with the tools they need to create measurement and control applications. In our project weare controlling the temperature of a continuous flow of water. The controller used is PID controller.We are also aiming at tuning the PID controller by all methods.
 DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM WITH SIMULINK USING MICROCONTROLLER WITH RS232 COMMUNICATION

The Data Acquisition Systems have become the backbones of many industrial applications. A variety of PC-based DAQ boards that support icon-based programming environments such as MATLAB or other software are available for implementing measurement and control systems. Unfortunately, many PC-based DAQ boards tend to be expensive. A very simple solution to implement data acquisition and control systems for educational or applications in data monitoring and control is presented. Using the RS-232 serial interfaces of the computer, a data acquisition system was developed using Atmega16 microcontroller. In this project, MATLAB and Simulink based software platform that enables the use of built-in serial communication are developed for simple data acquisition and control tasks by implementing in ablock diagram format. External devices sensors, signal generator etc. are used in this projectto implement the data acquisition using Simulink in MATLAB. Thus using MATLAB andSimulink, a low cost effective and easily modified DAQ system has been developed.
 INDUCTION HEATING

Induction heating is the process of heating an electrically conducting object usually a metalby electromagnetic induction, where eddy currents are generated within the metal and resistance leads to Joule heating of the metal. It is a non contact method of heating basedon Faradays Law of electromagnetic induction and has many advantages over conventional methods. Thus we propose a automated induction heating system which would take user inputpower and would continue heat the workpiece to get the desired output power.
 SMS BASED WIRELESS ELECTRONIC NOTICEBOARD

SMS based wireless electronic notice board is an implementation of the use of wireless technology for better communication. Wireless communication using GSM is an emerging technology that can be used for many real time applications.As everything in today’s world isbased on remote control, people and this kind of manifestation to ease the lifestyle. Noticeboards and display systems are used in almost every application that is developed. But theold programmable display systems do not other best service when it comes to displaying datawirelessly. The electronics displays which are currently used are programmable displays whichneed to be reprogrammed each time. This makes it inefficient for immediate informationtransfer, and thus the display board loses its importance. The system developed in thisproject makes the combined use of wirelessly technology in creating display boards. At thesame time it also guarantees the safety and concerns about the security issues as it preventsany kind of unauthorized access to the display boards. The development of this kind ofsystem surely ensures better and a lucid way of communication.
 ELECTRO-GLOVES – A WIRELESS GESTURE INPUT SYSTEM

Technology moves hand in hand with the growing demand for comfort and ease of operation of devices. This project tries to make available an alternative, to the mouse for controlling the cursor of a computer for efficient and easier navigation on the screen. The use of an electronic glove makes it possible for a user to access the computer in a wireless manner by moving their hand around in the desired direction of motion. The gloves also makes it possible to use the left and right click by flicking a finger. The design and development of this motion control system does not require any database system or comparison with stored values. The first part of the project is about acquiring the position of the glove using a 3 axis accelerometer. The position of the tilt in any of the three directions can be detected and the precise location of the cursor can be found. The other part involves transmitting the values of the accelerometer to the base station connected to the com-puter through the USB port. This facilitates for the replacement of the conventional mouse with the glove with no additional hardware.
Thus our project uses gesture input system that can be conveniently used by anyone who wishes not to be tied down to a desk when using a computer.
 ANALYSIS OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND CIRCUITS USING LabVIEW

Conducting experiments in undergraduate electronics engineering laboratory is a constantconcern for those who teach it. Computer based learning has become an important part of education. Internet further contributed greatly to long distance learning and remote laboratories. A traditional method of conducting the experiments include the use of measuring equipment’s which are costly, occupies a lot of space and requires enough knowledge to makemeasurements using these instruments. Verification of theoretical concepts with simulatorsbefore actual experimentation removes these drawbacks. Thus, simulation tools aid hands-on experience in the laboratory. This will not only make the experiments’ procedure easier, but itwill also make it more systematic and knowledgeable for the students. This paper providesinsights into the virtual uniform framework developed using Data Acquisition (DAQ) boardand National Instruments LabVIEW software package. In this work, LabVIEW is used tomodel standard laboratory instruments as well as electronic device/circuit. A graphic userinterface (GUI) is developed to make the simulator tool attractive and a lot easier for thestudents to navigate through the various laboratories and experiments. The developedframework can be used in the laboratories of subjects like Basic Electronics, AnalogIntegrated Circuits, Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices and Circuit Design, SignalProcessing, Communication and VLSI.
